Transformation of 530 dwellings - Grand Parc Bordeaux
In 2019 the Mies van der Rohe award was awarded to ‘Grand Parc Bordeaux’, for the transformation of 530 social houses into more pleasant, sustainable and economic homes, by Lacaton & Vassal architectes, Frédéric Druot Architecture and Christophe Hutin Architecture. Three housing blocks from the seventies were restored instead of demolished, and existing windows were replaced with brighter, bigger and more spacious ‘winter gardens’ and balconies. . It seems a perfect example of mixing affordable, inclusive but still beautiful architecture.
