In the context of the NEB Community, a NEB Local Chapter facilitate decentralisation of the NEB Community, strengthening the multilevel approach of the initiative, and support NEB Community members in taking on active roles in the community and beyond.
Ideally, a NEB Local Chapter is established at a local level. However, considering a vast differences between the sizes of countries and territories and numbers of NEB Community members across countries and territories, the scale of a NEB Local Chapter can vary from local, regional, national and even international level. I
What do NEB Local Chapters do?
The aim of a Local Chapter is to amplify the collaboration and impact of NEB Community members in a specific territory by fostering collaboration, exchanges and networking, translating NEB values and principles into concrete actions and projects, and acting as a connection between different levels of the NEB Community
The key principles to guide the operation of NEB Local Chapters are the following:
- Bottom-up and participatory approach
- Transparent, locally owned, relatable and acknowledged
- Well-coordinated and organised
- Inclusive and relevant to local contexts
- Cross-sectorial, trans-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder
Why establish or join a NEB Local Chapter?
By joining or establishing a Local Chapter, NEB Community members can benefit from increased visibility, networking opportunities with like-minded individuals and organisations and collaboration opportunities. This can help NEB Community members (and beyond) amplify their impact, build partnerships, and drive meaningful change in their local context.
How to establish a NEB Local Chapter?
A minimum of two NEB Community members are required to establish a Local Chapter. Setting up process should be transparent and inclusive, meaning that all NEB Community members in the area covered by a NEB Local Chapter must be invited to participate.
European Commission (on its behalf NEB unit) acts as a validator of a Chapter's establishment. Interested community members should submit a proposal to the NEB unit. The request must include proposed name of the Local Chapter, territorial scope, list of participating organisations, and appointed coordinator(s).
Detailed information about the NEB Local Chapter model and how to establish it are available in this document: NEB_Local_Chapters_model_final_April2023.pdf
If you are interested in learning more about establishing a Local Chapter, we encourage you to get in touch with the NEB unit or your NEB National Contact Point, who will be happy to provide you with more information, guidance, and support to help you get started.
Join the NEB Local Chapters community and become part of a vibrant network of individuals and organisations working together to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and beautiful future.

Description
Our intentions in establishing the Stockholm Local Chapter were to create a local ecosystem for individuals and organisations who share the passion and the urgency, to create a more sustainable, beautiful, and inclusive future society.
NEB Stockholm is open to Individuals, Organisations, Academia, Non-Governmental Organisations, Municipalities and Businesses who are actively engaged with the initiative and share the three inseparable core values – sustainability, aesthetics and inclusion - and based in the Capital region of Sweden, Stockholms Län (County). Our intentions in establishing the Stockholm Local Chapter are to create a local ecosystem for individuals and organisations who share the passion and the urgency, to create a more sustainable, beautiful, and inclusive future society. Currently, the chapter has 10+ members and was established in February 2024 as one of the first chapter’s EU wide.
The aim for the Local Chapter is to become a meeting-place where chapter-members can gather, discuss, exchange and develop project ideas, tools and methods together or with the support of each other. The Stockholm Local Chapter is thought to become a platform for cross-sectorial action focusing on fundamental instead of decorative change. Societal transformation is a complex task, and it will require a lot of experimentation, bravery and peer support to be prototyped by interdisciplinary, multigenerational and cross-hierarchical project teams. We want to be that contribution to our changing region.
