Iliana Ivanova serves as European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. Within her responsibilities, she oversees Horizon Europe, ensuring investment in innovative research via the European Innovation Council. She fosters collaboration among Member States for a cohesive European Research Area and leads efforts for the European Education Area, prioritising excellence in universities, promoting digital education, international cooperation, and cultural heritage preservation. Ivanova has a background in law and international relations, having obtained degrees from Sofia University and the College of Europe. She has held various positions within Bulgarian government and diplomacy, including Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
