Contact

French-Chinese artistic duo Benoit+Bo met in Tianjin, China, in 2002 - the Year of the Water Horse. The Chinese zodiac has become a symbolic thread running through their work and artistic journey, which reflects personal, intercultural experiences living and working in China, Paris and Brussels and operating a studio in Shanghai. In their early years in China, Benoit+Bo created photographic performances amid urban landscapes under construction using makeup inspired by Chinese opera and pop culture. Their work has explored cartography drawing from the 17th century Carte du Tendre, a French map of an imaginary place called Tendre, and performance and installation featuring masks drawn from folk theatre encountered in Hong Kong. Benoit+Bo’s work has been exhibited in galleries, museums and festivals in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, China, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. Alongside making art, Bo is a PhD candidate at the Centre de recherches sur les arts et le langage (CRAL), EHESS, in Paris.
