A movement on the ground
Since its launch in 2020, the NEB has inspired a strong grassroots movement and the involvement of Member States, regions and municipalities across the EU and beyond.
This engagement has resulted in a vibrant NEB Community with nearly 2.000 members to date, including non-profit organisations, businesses, public authorities, winners of the NEB Prizes and the NEB Boost for Small Municipalities, other NEB project holders, as well as National Contact Points. This diverse network connects a wide range of stakeholders, reaching millions of Europeans and promoting collaboration and innovation across Europe and beyond. Additionally, the NEB has already led to numerous results in every EU Member State and beyond.
Almost 700 projects promoting and supporting the NEB values and principles have been launched in the areas of research and innovation, regional and urban development, skills development, and culture.
The biannual Festival of the New European Bauhaus celebrates the initiative’s achievements and takes stock of its progress across Europe and beyond.

An enabler for the clean transition and innovation
In December 2025, the Commission presented its plan for the future of the New European Bauhaus. Building on its first five years of achievements, the NEB will take on a stronger role in supporting the clean transition and innovation in Europe and beyond. It helps businesses, innovators, and communities drive an inclusive, sustainable, and quality-focused transformation of neighbourhoods and industries.
Three main objectives will scale up the NEB:
- enhancing circularity, sustainability and innovation in the built environment;
- empowering citizens through participatory processes to strengthen democratic, inclusive and resilient neighbourhoods;
- and harnessing the transformative power of education, arts and culture to boost creativity and innovation for local transformation.
To achieve these objectives, the NEB will focus on flagship actions that foster bio-based and circular solutions for the built environment, improve access to funding and governance, and turn the NEB Academy into a central hub for skills, knowledge, and innovation. It will also work to strengthen community resilience to climate-related risks and natural disasters, ensure better recognition and evaluation of NEB projects, increase impact through coordinated funding and governance, and expand its international role, including support for initiatives in Ukraine.
