An Edible Landscape Project

We are interested in innovative ways of strengthening our connections with nature and other forms of life.

Bees love trees! These little buzzing creatures play a vital role in our ecosystem & biodiversity. As pollinators, they are the hidden heroes of our food system!

David Whelan submitted the Edible Landscape Project through our website.

It's a pan-European movement based in Westport, County Mayo, Republic of Ireland. They are building climate-smart food systems & services through climate awareness training, a podcast, workshops on tree grafting, planting & pruning, offering a different way to think about our individual & community food systems.

They empower individuals & communities to take care of nature and protect the planet by building local food security and climate resilience. They do this through education and network building, advocating for policy change, building community consensus & embedding practical, land-based food solutions for the local environment.

Their Tree Towns Initiative© is about planting community orchards of fruit & nut trees across Ireland as a start and aiming to expand across our European network.

They believe we can do something positive to reverse the effects of climate change, sequester carbon, improve biodiversity, and increase local food security.

Why not start by planting trees & edible landscapes in our local communities to build community resilience for the future?

Their practical workshops teach the locals how to plant fruit trees & make them aware of the intrinsic link between climate change and the food choices we all make every day.

The initiative builds on this theme by actively engaging local communities in knowledge sharing and cross-community partnerships.

The project follows a planting framework: the right trees in the right place at the right time for the right reasons using the right resources!

They also pass on the knowledge to the next generation and show them that it's in our hands! We can take action to enhance our environment & combat climate change.
