The world needs gender equality, today and every day. ?

Women and girls are essential to driving change for a better world, especially in times of crisis - including climate change, conflict and health.

"Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow" is the focus of this year's International Womens Day. ?

Today, we commemorate this occasion by highlighting Dipdii Textiles, a project selected as one of the finalists of the 2021 New European Bauhaus awards in the "Products and life style" category.

Dipdii Textiles is a women-led textile collaboration effort that upcycles raw materials such as shredded blankets created from old saris to make new woven textiles tailored by hand and crafted using local textile traditions and techniques, giving these fabrics new life. ♻

These textiles, known as khatas, are subsequently made into unique contemporary clothes and decorative products such as pillow covers.

Created by the A. Heringer, an architect, and V. Lena Lang, a master tailor, Dipdii's goal is to foster a sense of community and cooperation between Germany and Bangladesh.

The eco-friendly and inclusive initiative is made possible in collaboration with the Bangladeshi non-governmental organization Dipshikha for rural development.

Clothes from Dipdii Textiles are designed in Laufen, Germany, manufactured through the craft of many women in the villages of Rudrapur and Birgonj in Bangladesh.

The project intends to improve women's labor opportunities and working conditions in both countries' rural areas by providing fair wages and a healthy work environment.

As a result, the venture is participative, sustainable, and decentralized garment production that empowers craftswomen by making them equal actors in decision-making linked to climate change and sustainability issues surrounding their work while protecting the environment and generating a positive social impact.
