A Scientific Ritual of Counting Sand Hoppers

This event combines field research with mindfulness and artistic experience. Observation of nature is slowed through conscious use of the senses, breathing and attentive presence in a place. Participants record phenomena and develop ecological sensitivity and awareness of connections between their bodies, landscape and living organisms. The ritual takes the form of counting sand hoppers on a beach, repeating observations from 30 years ago to reflect on ecological changes.
