Description
For the entire duration of the New European Bauhaus Festival, visitors can discover the original installation Infinite Cloud, displayed in the Small Narthex of the Art & History Museum. The piece is a colourful suspended cloud made of 1,000 paper cranes.
Infinite Cloud is a work born from the friendship between Jay Khamtay Garnier, an aspiring origami master, and artist-architect Philippe Leblanc. The piece was conceived as a constellation of 1,000 paper cranes, inspired by the Japanese tradition according to which folding 1,000 cranes brings good fortune or grants a wish.
In March, while working on this project, Jay unexpectedly passed away at the age of 22. Thanks to the support of Elisabeth Degryse, Minister-President and Minister of Culture of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, and her team, 700 cranes were folded under the guidance of Belgian origami master Michael David — whom Jay deeply admired — allowing the work to be completed and shared with the public.
This enchanting installation, in which 1,000 colourful birds seem to dance into infinity, is an invitation to beauty, peace, and joy.
