Helle Søholt is the cofounder of Gehl Architects and has been a leader in promoting people first urban development for more than two decades. She has worked on major public realm transformations around the world, from Market Street in San Francisco to the Huangpu Waterfront in Shanghai and George Street in Sydney, bringing a human scale approach to city design. After 25 years as CEO, she now serves as board chair of Gehl, guiding a team of around 120 people in Copenhagen, New York, San Francisco and emerging local hubs. Her work has helped shape Gehl’s expertise in urban strategy, design, mobility and public life data. She has also led research and innovation across themes such as social infrastructure, foodscapes and the future of retail, consistently broadening the field of urbanism globally. Outside of Gehl, she chairs the Board of BLOXHUB, Denmark’s leading urban innovation hub, and serves on the Board of Directors of Freja, the Danish state real estate company. In addition, she serves on the committee developing Denmark’s new National Architecture Policy and is a frequent international speaker on urban development and governance.
