The Pile transforms a temporary sediment heap on Donauinsel, an island in Austria, into a living public atelier. After floods, the river leaves behind material the city then treats as waste, yet these materials host insects, pioneer plants, and young trees. Through art, citizen science, and workshops in Vienna, the project reframes debris as a learning site, fostering ecological literacy and new perspectives on urban river systems.
