European Green City awards recognise and reward local action for a transition to a greener, more sustainable future. The European Green Capital (EGC) awards are for cities with over 100,000 habitants, and the European Green Leaf (EGL) recognises smaller cities of over 20,000 habitants. The initiative is strictly linked to the Green City Accord, a movement of 125 signatory cities willing to report and commit to ambitious targets in five key environmental areas.
